Eon’s Training facility is switched on to inclusivity!
09 Oct 2024
As a company, Eon has a reputation for valuing people, it promotes a healthy work-life balance and an inclusive culture, fostering mutual respect and understanding – the right ingredients to meet the requirements of our Inclusivity Charter! This recognition comes as part of Eon’s review of its EDI (Equality Diversity and Inclusion) policies at the training facility.
Lee Miles, Technical Trainer & Development Specialist at Eon talked us through the process of working with LCL Awards Quality Assurance Manager, Aaron Grell, outlining the steps Eon has taken to make staff and trainees meet the criteria of the Charter. Lee explains:
“It has been such a worthwhile process, as it’s given us the opportunity to enhance our EDI policies and really think about how we bring diversity to the training centre. Our drive to offer renewables training to our workforce has been hugely successful, with a greater take-up than anticipated and focussing on the Inclusivity Charter has helped us shape the way forward.
“Not only do we want to ensure all the staff here are supported, we also have the responsibility of instilling the values of diversity in our wider workforce. After all, they are the people who will be representing the company and its ethics out in the real world, when they work in peoples’ homes.
“We already have policies in place to ensure safe working environments, zero tolerance of discriminatory behaviour, and facilities such as multi-faith prayer rooms, as well as set ups to cater for a wide range of learners, but we’re exploring other ideas to enhance what we do here.
“We’re looking into creating ambassadors within the academy to communicate and drive the Inclusion and diversity message this is to embed our commitment. We’re planning to get involved more in national campaigns such as Mental Health Week to support our staff and trainees as well as developing a series of workshops and a cross-site information campaign to promote inclusivity across all our platforms and buildings.
“Looking at our whistle-blowing policy has been another area of focus. Our approach to making these changes has been open and transparent, we’ve been encouraging everyone to come forward with ideas – to brainstorm, if you like.
“We’re thrilled to have satisfied the criteria for LCL Awards’ Inclusivity Charter, but we’re not stopping there. My role here centres on auditing and compliance and so it’s great to have LCL Awards’ backing in taking our EDI policies forward – taking and shaping Eon’s core beliefs throughout our workforce - from top to bottom!”
