The target groups for the Qualification are those learners who are;

  • Preparing for employment, new entrants to the occupation.
  • Existing personnel in the industry seeking to obtain a qualification to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of gas utilisation.
  • Preparing learners for further learning or training and/or developing knowledge and/or skills in a work area of existing personnel seeking to extend their range of work.

Note: This qualification alone will not enable holders of the qualification to apply for and be accepted for registration with Gas Safe Register.

Whilst not a route to becoming a registered gas engineer, this qualification is an excellent starting point for those seeking a career in the gas and building services engineering sector. It supports the development of learners in roles such as:

What progression opportunities are available when I complete this qualification?

Once you’ve completed this diploma, you could consider progressing to:

  • Practical gas qualifications such as Managed Learning Programmes (MLPs)
  • Further Level 3 qualifications or apprenticeships in gas installation or servicing

This course also supports progression into roles requiring knowledge of health and safety, combustion systems, and gas legislation, and is a starting point for those pursuing supervisory or inspection duties.

What is involved in delivering this qualification?

To deliver this qualification, a centre must be approved by LCL Awards and demonstrate the ability to meet their quality assurance requirements. This includes having qualified teachers and assessors with relevant teaching credentials and industry experience, as well as appropriate policies and procedures in place.

Centres also need access to suitable facilities and learning resources to support the delivery of the theoretical content. This includes classroom space, industry-relevant documentation, and some equipment to illustrate key concepts. Centres must be equipped to administer online multiple choice tests, in line with LCL Awards’ assessment and verification standards.
