What careers can this qualification lead to?
This course is designed for qualified electricians who want to move into the rapidly growing electric vehicle installation and service market. It prepares you for roles such as:
- EV charge point installer in domestic, commercial, or industrial settings
 - Electrical contractor or technician offering EV installation as part of a wider service
 - Maintenance engineer supporting the ongoing operation of EV charging systems

With demand for charging points rising sharply, this qualification helps you position yourself at the forefront of a sector that will continue to expand for decades.
This qualification is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and may be required by MCS certified employers.
What progression opportunities are available when I complete this qualification?
The UK government’s commitment to end the sale of conventional petrol and diesel cars by 2035, and the growing adoption of hybrid and fully electric vehicles (over 780,000 plug-in vehicles already on UK roads), is driving huge demand for a reliable, nationwide charging infrastructure. This qualification provides a strong platform for electricians to take advantage of that demand
What is involved in delivering this qualification?
To deliver the Level 3 Award in the Installation and Commissioning of Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment in Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Locations, a training centre must be approved by LCL Awards and meet all delivery and quality assurance requirements.
Centres need qualified teachers and assessors with up-to-date expertise in electrical installation and EV charging systems, supported by appropriate teaching and assessing qualifications. Delivery must also be backed by access to the latest regulatory resources, including the current edition of BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation.
Assessment involves:
- An online multiple-choice knowledge exam, set and marked by LCL Awards.
 - A practical performance assessment (set by LCL Awards and marked by centre-approved assessors).

Centres must therefore provide secure IT facilities for online exams and a well-equipped practical area where learners can demonstrate safe inspection and testing procedures.
