In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment
This regulated qualification is designed for operatives, managers of premises and employees who are responsible for the maintenance of electrical equipment. It provides underpinning knowledge and skills to comply with current legislation and the requirements of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
The learner will know:
- The applications, objectives and definitions within the IET Code of Practice for the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment
- The statutory and non-statutory requirements relevant to the maintenance of electrical equipment
- The electrical units, circuits and components associated with in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
- The equipment construction and classifications and how these relate to protection against electric shock
- The procedures for the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
- How to carry out inspection and testing of electrical equipment
- The information and documentation relating to in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
The learner will be able to:
- Inspect and test items of electrical equipment

An Initial Assessment conducted by the Approved Centre on application for the qualification will determine the learner's capability to complete the qualification.
The assessment methods within the qualification include an on-screen multiple choice knowledge examination and Centre marked performance assessment.

What is involved in delivering this qualification?
To deliver the Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, a training centre must be approved by LCL Awards and demonstrate it can meet the awarding body’s delivery and assessment standards.
Centres must have qualified teachers and assessors with relevant industry experience and appropriate teaching or assessing credentials.
Assessment involves:
- An on-screen multiple-choice exam, which is set and marked by LCL Awards.
- A practical performance assessment, which is set by LCL Awards but delivered and marked by LCL Awards approved assessors.
Centres must therefore provide secure IT facilities for online exams.
