- Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrical installations. LCL-Q3006
- Understand and apply the practices and procedures for the installation and connection of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment. LCL-Q3007
- Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning, approving and certification of electrical installations. LCL-Q3008
This regulated qualification is for learners that wish to demonstrate their skills and knowledge as a Domestic Qualified Supervisor for Competent Person Schemes in the UK. It is based primarily on BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations along with other relevant regulations.
The qualification provides underpinning knowledge to comply with current legislation and the requirements of the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification 2024 document for route to membership of Competent Person Schemes1.
1This qualification is only suitable for registration with Competent Person Schemes if it has been completed and certificated by 31st December 2025.

An Initial Assessment conducted by the Approved Centre on application for the qualification will determine the learner's capability to complete the qualification.
The assessment methods within the qualification include on-screen multiple choice knowledge examinations and AC marked performance assessments.

What careers can this qualification lead to?
This qualification is an entry route for further progression in the domestic electrical installation sector. This qualification is not suitable (from 1st January 2026) as an entry route to becoming a Qualified Supervisor. The qualification provides knowledge to assist:
- Electrical installer working in dwellings
- Domestic electrician carrying out installation, inspection, and testing
- Property maintenance technician with electrical responsibilities
It provides the skills and knowledge to carry out electrical installation work under the supervision of a Qualified Supervisor in domestic properties.
What progression opportunities are available when I complete this qualification?
After completing this qualification, you may progress to higher-level qualifications in electrical design, inspection and testing, or electrotechnical systems.
What is involved in delivering this qualification?
To deliver the Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings, a training centre must be approved by LCL Awards and meet their quality assurance standards.
Centres need qualified teachers and assessors with relevant industry experience in domestic electrical installation and compliance, along with appropriate teaching and assessment qualifications. Delivery should be supported by access to up-to-date regulatory documents, including the current edition of BS 7671 Wiring Regulations, Building Regulations, and relevant codes of practice.
Assessment involves:
- An online multiple-choice exam, set and marked by LCL Awards.
- A practical performance assessments, which are set by LCL Awards and marked by centre-approved assessors.
- Completion of an on-line portfoio of evidence demonstrating on-site electrical installation work
Centres must therefore provide secure IT facilities for online exams and a well-equipped practical area where learners can demonstrate safe electrical work.
