The Requirements of Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018 Incorporating A3:2024
This qualification relates to the requirements of electrical installations has been designed to enable learners to demonstrate their knowledge of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations.
This qualification may be required for electrical operatives wishing to join Electrical Registration Bodies, Competent Person Schemes or the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
This regulated qualification is for learners to demonstrate a knowledge of the scope, object and fundamental principles of BS 7671, along with the definitions, how to assess the general characteristics of electrical installations and the requirements of protection for safety of electrical installations.
Learners will know the requirements for selection and erection of equipment for electrical installations along with the requirements for the inspection and testing of electrical installations.
Leaners will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the requirements of special installations and locations as identified in BS 7671, the information contained within Part 8 and the appendices of BS 7671.
Prerequisites and Assessment Methods
There are no pre-requisites for learners to enrol on to the qualification. However, Approved Centres shall carry out an initial assessment of the learner’s capability to complete the qualification.
Learners should contact their local Approved Training Centre for further advice and guidance on suitability to undertake the qualification.

This qualification is often a mandatory requirement for those working in the electrical industry. It is recognised by industry bodies and supports applications for roles that require up-to-date knowledge of wiring regulations, including:

It is also commonly required for professional registrations, such as with the NICEIC, and for applications for an ECS Gold Card.

What is involved in delivering this qualification?
To deliver this qualification, a training centre must be approved by LCL Awards and meet their quality assurance requirements.
Centres must employ qualified teachers and assessors with current knowledge of BS 7671 and relevant teaching and assessment credentials.
They must provide suitable learning and assessment facilities, including access to the current edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2018, Amd 3:2022) and supporting guidance notes.
As this qualification is theory-based, practical facilities are not required, but centres must provide access to secure IT systems for the online multiple-choice assessment.
