What careers can this qualification lead to?
This qualification is essential for professionals involved in the installation, commissioning, servicing, and decommissioning of CO₂ refrigeration systems. As the RACHP industry shifts towards low-GWP refrigerants like CO₂, this qualification helps you remain compliant, competitive, and ready for the future.
What progression opportunities are available when I complete this qualification?
After completing This qualification, you may progress to:
- Other specialist RACHP qualifications, such as flammable refrigerants or renewable heat pump systems
- Ongoing CPD and revalidation training to maintain competence and meet legal requirements
This qualification ensures you are well-placed to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly, low-carbon refrigeration solutions.
What is involved in delivering this qualification?
To deliver this qualification, a training centre must be approved by LCL Awards and meet their quality assurance requirements.
Centres must employ qualified teachers and assessors with current experience in commercial refrigeration systems, CO₂ applications, and oxy-fuel brazing, supported by relevant teaching and assessment credentials.
They must provide suitable practical facilities with commercial CO₂ refrigeration training rigs, high-pressure components, safety equipment, and oxy-fuel brazing tools. Learners should be able to carry out installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, decommissioning, and brazing tasks in realistic conditions.
Assessment involves:
- An online multiple-choice knowledge exam, set and marked by LCL Awards.
- A practical performance assessment (set by LCL Awards and marked by centre-approved assessors).
Centres must therefore have secure IT facilities for assessments, well-equipped workshops for practical training.
