Twentieth anniversary portraits: Mark Page from Oaklands College

Mark Page has been Centre Manager and leading IQA at Oaklands College’s site in St Albans for the last eighteen months, but LCL Awards has been working with the college for the last twenty years. Oaklands was the sixth training centre to be approved by LCL back in 2004 and it’s true to say both companies have come a long way since then.
Oaklands, originally established in 1920 as an agricultural college now has three sites across Hertfordshire, in St Albans, Welling Garden City and Borehamwood, offering thousands of learners further education in almost every field, from beauty to construction.
LCL Awards is celebrating its twentieth anniversary and this year Oaklands will see the completion of its brand-new Construction Centre - part of a major £62M re-development of its St Albans site. The centre will house industry-standard workshops for the college’s construction students and spacious modern facilities to prepare Oakland’s learners for industry.
Mark, who trained originally with British Gas, back in 1987, ran his own business for many years. He’s been an assessor since 2018 and enjoys bringing new learners on. He explains:
“There’s nothing like supporting new learners in the trades, it gives me huge satisfaction. Oaklands has been working with LCL Awards since 2004 and it’s been great to pick up the reins and see how well the two companies have been working together over the years.”
“We like working with LCL Awards because they have very high standards, and their qualifications are recognised and respected across the industry.
“Day to day, we have a great working relationship with the staff at LCL. They’re responsive - always there when you need them to answer a quick query and their External Verifiers and technical staff are very supportive.
“Their administration staff are fabulous. Last week, for instance, we had a cohort of learners who took their gas assessments. We sent the paperwork off to LCL the next day and it was back within a week. This is great for our learners – who appreciate a quick turnaround, great for us – and great for LCL Awards. We like to keep our house in order and it’s fantastic that they can support us in this. If I had to sum up LCL Awards in a couple of words, I’d say they offer ‘Service with a smile!’”
