Timeline blog - the beginning: 2004-2005

03 May 2024

Over the next few weeks, we’re looking back over LCL Awards 20-year history to track the evolution of the business and examine some of the developments in the company - and the wider BSE sector - that have shaped the business' growth and diversification.  Let’s start at the beginning:

In February 2004 Kevin and Gayle Budd, fed up with the service they’d been getting from Certification Bodies they had been working with at their own gas training centres, decided they’d set up their own. Thus, Logic Certification came into being and work on developing the business began.

Initially, Logic Certification delivered certificates of competence purely for the ACS scheme and gained Accreditation by UKAS as a Certification Body for BS EN ISO/IEC 17024.

In 2005 Mark Krull, who began his career working as a Specification Manager for Worcester Bosch and was already a Director of Kevin’s training company, Logic4training, joined Logic Certification in a new directorial role.

On 1st January 2005, the introduction of Part P to the Building Regulations gave Logic Certification the opportunity to move the business into the electrical training sector. Part P had been brought into England and Wales by the government to improve electrical installation standards, ensuring that only qualified tradespeople could carry out electrical work in domestic settings. The qualifications in Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating and Electrical Defined Scope were to become the foundation of the suite of electrical qualifications the company provides today.

2005 also saw the first Logic Certification Forum, an annual event held for the company’s approved training centres.  Over the years the Forum has been a key date in Logic Certification’s calendar. A great opportunity to promote new qualifications, keep centres abreast of developments - and to network.

Our Forum this year will be held at the Space Centre in Leicester on Friday 5th July. If you haven’t already done so, please book your workshop places – all Approved Centres are invited and the event is free.

We’re making the Forum a bit special this year and holding an awards ceremony and buffet dinner the night before (Thursday 4th July) at Hilton Leicester.

We encourage you to enter one of the five categories and come along to help us celebrate. For more information, including how to enter, please click here.

And one more thing…….If you’ve been coming to the Forum for years do you have any pictures you can send us? We’d love to see them - we'd like to display a selection at the forum. Please email them direct to our PR company Jello – emily@jellopr.co.uk.
