Reuben Davison – Business Development Manager

18 Sep 2024

Reuben Davison joined LCL Awards in September 2024 as Business Development Manager. He is based in West Yorkshire and will spend much of his time visiting LCL Awards’ approved centres across the UK, reinstating what he calls “the personal touch.”

In his second week in the job, Reuben went on a tour of LCL Awards’ centres in Scotland with Operations Director, Neill Ovenden, and was struck by the warm reception he received across the board.  He explains:

“During COVID Teams became a necessity, but as we settle into a blended approach of online and in-person contact, LCL Awards has recognised the importance of face-to-face interaction, so I shall be spending a lot of my time on the road, building on established relationships as well as forming new ones.”

Reuben started his career back in the late 1980s, firstly in publishing and then in business development and sales in the primary care and pharmaceutical sectors. He spent the last three and a half years working for another awarding body and is keen to develop his ideas in his new role at LCL Awards to help the business grow.

Upfront about the fact he has no technical experience in building services, Reuben, believes that being new to the industry gives him an advantage - he’ll be looking at the development of LCL Awards with a fresh pair of eyes, not caught up in traditional approaches, but embracing the new.

“It’s such an exciting time to be working in this sector. We’re in the middle of a Second Industrial Revolution with green energy and new resources to make technical education fit for the Twenty First Century.  There’s a huge skills gap in renewables and it’s vital we train up engineers to work with all new technologies if we’re to achieve the government’s ambitious targets for Net Zero. LCL Awards are leaders in renewables qualifications, and I’m thrilled to be part of the team driving the business forward.

“As well as the qualifications themselves, LCL Awards is always working to help its centres deliver training in the most efficient ways. I saw, on my recent visits to centres in Glasgow and Edinburgh how fired up centres are to deliver the best, embracing new technology to make course delivery run more smoothly. Take our EAP (Electronic Assessment Programme) and ecordia platforms, for instance. Electronic assessments mean a streamlined process for centres and learners, with an easy update process and less printing. Digital portfolios mean that candidates can evidence their practical work experience so much more cleanly now. Gone are the days of lugging round a paper folder of scrappy hand-written sheets, the critical information they need to pass their qualification and find work afterwards is kept digitally - easily accessed by all who need to see it.”

Reuben has greatly enjoyed his first few weeks at LCL Awards, working alongside Neill and the team of technical experts that will support him in his new role. When he’s not at work, Reuben enjoys playing and teaching guitar, which he’s done for many years, and spending time taking photographs, which he describes as his hobby.
