Remembering Peter Dayton (1952 – 2024)
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Peter Dayton on 29 December 2024, aged 72. Peter will be remembered as a true gentleman, a consummate professional and a beloved member of our community at LCL Awards. Peter was held in very high regard and left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
A distinguished career:
Peter’s career spanned decades of dedicated service in the engineering field, including roles at British Gas, Vaillant, SIT Controls, CORGI and DMS Ltd. Peter joined Gas Logic in 2002 and later LCL Awards in 2006, and was an extremely important member of the team. Peter oversaw the gas training manuals from their launch in 2007 to 2024. His vast expertise and willingness to support others made him a trusted guide and teacher to many. He leaves a great legacy that continues to help new and existing gas engineers.
Some thoughtful and heartfelt tributes have been shared:
Gayle Budd - “Peter was an industry expert, a great trainer and most of all, a true gentleman. He supported me so much in the early days of L4T.”
Joe Hedges: “Peter was professional, with integrity and always good humour.”
Tony Simmons: “Always willing to help and happy to share his extensive knowledge. I learned so much from talking to Pete.”
Steve Mulvany: “Never a person to be fazed or lose his patience, Peter was always sympathetic to his colleague's workload and never put on anyone. An ‘old school’ person that will be missed but remembered by a lot of people for a very long time.”
Fae Pawley: “Peter was truly one-of-a-kind. He always took the time to listen and was always ready to help others. He possessed a great sense of humour and I will fondly remember the laughter we shared in the office. I echo Tony’s comment that we all learned something valuable from conversations with Peter.”
Eric Holland: “A consummate professional with a vested interest in doing his best for those he taught and assessed.”
Nigel Clegg: “Peter was such a gentleman and a pleasure to work with.”
A lasting legacy:
Peter exemplified the best qualities of the “old guard.” His integrity, good humour and commitment to excellence set a benchmark for all of us to aspire to. A passionate engineer to the core, Peter also found joy in his Land Rovers and all things mechanical, embodying a lifelong love of craftsmanship and ingenuity.
To Janet and the Dayton family, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences.
